Lost in the excitement of the UK football team hosting the #1 team in the country, UK basketball recruit Adrien Payne will be in the stands when UK kicks off against Florida. Payne is one of the elite big men in the class of 2010. The 6'10" center out of Jefferson High School in Ohio is a critical piece of the 2010 recruiting puzzle for John Calipari. Kentucky is in desperate need of landing an elite big man with the graduation of Perry Stevenson and the expected NBA departures of Patrick Patterson and Demarcus Cousins following the upcoming season. The only players remaining on UK's roster over 6'7" would be 2009 newcomer Daniel Orton and seldom used Josh Harrellson if both Patterson and Cousins depart for the NBA. Payne is listed by rivals.com as the 20th best player overall and the 4th best center in the 2010 class.
Think they forgot about Daniel Orton. If Patterson and Cousins leave, we would have Orton whom is over 6'7. But that would hurt us losing them two and Stevenson.
ReplyDeleteThanks David, I'm not sure how I overlooked Orton.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it can be easy to forget or overlook players when so many have come/gone. I suppose since Orton was one of our first commits and we had to go through so much to get the other players with the coaching change, we just kinda forgot. I look forward to Orton having a great year after being through that training in California with Patterson. Hopefully Stevenson will go out with a bang for his Senior season. I really hope he does well this year.
