Game Time Set for Cats vs. South Carolina

The UK versus South Carolina football game will kick off at 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 10th in Columbia, SC. The game will be broadcasted on FSN, it is not clear which FSN regions will carry the game but most likely FSN South will be the primary provider.

The game will mark the 21st time the Gamecocks and Wildcats have faced off on the gridiron with the Gamecocks leading the all-time series 16-3-1. The Wildcats have faired even worse when playing against Gamecocks' head coach Steve Spurrier who owns a personal 16-0 record versus the Wildcats. The Wildcats have lost the last nine meetings versus South Carolina.

The 12:30 PM start time will disgust many fans, but in years past a game such as this may have only been broadcasted over the radio.

The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) will host South Carolina State on Saturday, October 3, while Kentucky (2-1, 0-1) will host SEC West rival Alabama.

UK Football Gets Commitment

According to The Knoxville News, Alcoa High School (TN) senior tight end/defensive linemen Tyler Robinson (6-4, 250 lbs) called UK assistant coach Randy Sanders shortly before UK kicked off against Florida to tell him he wanted to commit to the Cats. Robinson will join former Alcoa High School products Randall Cobb and Kyrus Lanxter on UK's roster next season. UK plans to utilize Robinson at the tight end position.

Robinson was Class 2A Tennessee Mr. Football lineman winner and PrepXtra defensive player of the year last season.

Robinson joins a 2010 recruiting class that already includes:

Mychal Bailey DB 6-0 206 4.4 - Summit, MS
Tyler Brause QB 6-4 220 4.68 5.5 Bucyrus, OH
Teven Eatmon TE 6-7 280 - 5.5 Bucyrus, OH
Josh Gibbs DB 6-0 200 - - Santa Clarita, CA
Justin Henderson DE 6-4 228 4.7 5.6 Bamberg, SC
Joseph Mansour K 6-3 174 - 5.2 LaGrange, GA
Tim McAdoo DT 6-2 310 - 5.6 Murfreesboro, TN

UK Gets Whipped by Florida 41-7, Tebow Taken To hospital

Before fans could blink, cry, or scream UK was staring at a 31-0 deficit. Tebow was running over the defense like a freight train running over matchbox cars. It seemed each offensive play either resulted in a loss or a penalty for a loss, likewise each defensive play resulted in a first down or a penalty. Florida gained 495 total yards, with 362 yards coming on the ground compared to only 179 total yards for the Cats. Kentucky got whipped on offense, defense, and special teams by the #1 team in the country. Mike Hartline looked particulary bad going just 13-28 for 93 yards with two interceptions, but the running game was just as ineffective gaining only 86 yards and averaging just 2.7 yards per carry.

Despite the convincing victory by Florida, Gator fans will not sleep easily tonight after Tim Tebow had to be helped off the field in the third quarter after a sack by UK defensive end Taylor Wyndham. The injury appeared to be very serious with Tebow lying motionless on the field for two to three minutes before being helped off. On the sidelines, Tebow never looked quite right as he stared at the field with a dazed look on his face. Several minutes later Tebow was carted off the field while throwing up in a plastic bag before eventually being taken by ambulance to the hospital.

It is clear that Kentucky was overmatched against Florida and despite the ugly loss it is important that the Cats don't let this carry over to the remainder of the season. UK still has a talented team and will hopefully recover from this loss and continue the quest for a fourth straight bowl game. Unfortunately, the task isn't much easier for the Cats next week when they take on the #3 undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide at Commonwealth Stadium.

Tebow Will Play

Despite swirling reports that Tebow has been stricken by the swine flu, the worldwide leader is reporting that Tebow will play tonight. It comes as no surprise that the swine flu was not "Superman's" kryptonite. Although Tebow playing makes it much tougher for the Cats to pull off the upset, I am happy that we don't have to worry about a Mud Bowl Miracle being tarnished by beating a Tebow-less Gator team.

Adrien Payne in Lexington

Lost in the excitement of the UK football team hosting the #1 team in the country, UK basketball recruit Adrien Payne will be in the stands when UK kicks off against Florida. Payne is one of the elite big men in the class of 2010. The 6'10" center out of Jefferson High School in Ohio is a critical piece of the 2010 recruiting puzzle for John Calipari. Kentucky is in desperate need of landing an elite big man with the graduation of Perry Stevenson and the expected NBA departures of Patrick Patterson and Demarcus Cousins following the upcoming season. The only players remaining on UK's roster over 6'7" would be 2009 newcomer Daniel Orton and seldom used Josh Harrellson if both Patterson and Cousins depart for the NBA. Payne is listed by rivals.com as the 20th best player overall and the 4th best center in the 2010 class.

A Mud Bowl Miracle? UK vs #1 Florida

A Kentucky (2-0) win today versus Florida(3-0, 1-0 SEC) will probably be celebrated as the "Mud Bowl Miracle". It would be a miracle because Kentucky last defeated Florida on November 15, 1986 (I was 22 DAYS old) by a score of 10-3. Since that cold, gray day in November the Florida Gators have defeated the Cats 22 straight times with the latest loss being an embarassing 63-5 romp in the "Swamp". Today Lexington, KY has its own version of the swamp, albeit a muddy swamp, after several consecutive days of heavy rain, and Kentucky fans are hopeful that a Mud Bowl Miracle may be in the works.

The streak will not be easily broken today because Florida will be arriving in the Commonwealth with arguably the most talented team during the streak. Florida is ranked #1 in the country and are the defending BCS National Champions. Florida is riding a 13-game win streak into the Bluegrass, the longest in the storied programs history.

Kentucky last faced a #1 ranked team in 2007 when UK upset #1 LSU 43-37 in triple overtime in the game known as the Bluegrass Miracle. Kentucky is 3-7 all-time versus #1 ranked teams.

Kentucky is hungry to play spoiler to the consensus favorite to repeat as BCS National Champion. Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said, “I know our seniors know they’ve never beaten (Florida). It’s pretty obvious. They know the whipping we took last year was of giant proportions. I don’t think (the streak) is a factor. Some of the guys that will be playing weren’t even born. Obviously, it shows the dominance that Florida has had during that time span over Kentucky football.”

Maybe Tim Tebow provided UK with the best pep talk, "They weren’t on those teams. They’re a new team and they’re going to put that past them and say, ‘That’s not us. Those (other) teams did that. And this isn’t the Gator team that beat all those Kentucky teams. We’re going to go and show we’re a new team and we’ve got something to prove.’ "

The showdown at the Mud Bowl will take place at 6:00 PM EST on ESPN 2.

Go Cats!!! My OPTIMISTIC prediction: UK 35 UF 27!!!

Welcome!

Hi everyone, I want to welcome you all to the site. I know that hundreds of Kentucky Wildcat sites exist on the web. I do not wish to compete with them, and I do not wish to try to step on anybody's toes. This page is going to be primarily devoted to Kentucky Football and Basketball news and views, however, from time to time I may write about other topics that I find interesting. This site will follow recruiting, analyze matchups, and provide post-game recaps. Please contact me with any suggestions. Thanks for visiting and check back regularly!
